Outcomes of the 2023-2026 outgoing Council

The 2023-2026 outgoing IFAC Council took place on 23 August 2026 in Busan. Reports were approved and some motions adopted.

All Council were represented, 16 on site and 4 gave proxies. 2 out of the three ex-officio members were also represented on site.

The 2023-2026 reports by the outgoing President Dan Cho and the Vice-Presidents for Technical Activities (Carlos Pereira), Conferences (Richard Braatz), Publications (Sarah Surgeon), Finances (Silvia Mastellone), Operations (Dimitri Peaucelle) were presented and approved. Election (Maria Prandini), Awards (Frank Allgöwer), Membership (Hajime Asama), Distinguished Lecturer (Hideaki Ishii), Diversity & Inclusion (Mary Doyle-Kent), and Educational Activities (Steffi Knorn) Committees reported. Publications Management Board (Ian Craig) and IFAC Foundation (Frank Allgöwer) presented updates.

The following Motions were adopted:

  • Publications: Juergen Hahn, the current Deputy Editor-in-Chief of JPC, be appointed Editor-in-Chief with effect from 1 January 2027 
  • Elections:
  • Finances:
    • Accept the Vice-President Finances report for the 2025 final accounts
    • Indemnify the Vice-President Finances
    • Recommend incoming Council to approve 2026 budget update and 2027 budget project
  • Operations:
    • The Council validates the following list of Digital Services as being permanent services to be maintained and upgraded when necessary: Conference Submission Management System; Conference App; Conferences websites hosting; Conferences e-mailing to all affiliates; IFAC PapersOnLine – Diamond open access publication of Proceedings; IFAC Website; Social Media support for BlueSky, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X; Datable in the IFAC Portal; E-mail lists for officials @lists.ifac-control.org; E-mail aliases @ifac-mail.org; IFAC Cloud for file sharing among officials. Secretariat is in charge of ensuring the availability of the services. Executive Officers are responsible for negotiating the maintenance and improvement costs with the subcontractors. It can include the change of subcontractors. Executive Officers report to Council.
    • The Council decides that all affiliates having a role in an ongoing triennium, including TC Members, shall have their “Name” and “Fields of Interest” at least “IFAC Public” in their affiliates.ifac-control.org profile.
    • Taking into account both diversity and universality issues, the Council decides that all profiles in the IFAC Portal shall be filled using Latin script alphabet only, including the fields “First Name”, “Last Name”, except for an additional optional dedicated field “Name in non-Latin script characters”.
