The IFAC World Congress

Held every three years, the IFAC World Congress is the federation’s flagship event. It draws more than 3,000 researchers, engineers and educators from 55 member nations, and sets the technical agenda for the next triennium across eight plenary streams, 20+ invited sessions and a dedicated Industry Day.

IFAC Symposia

Symposia are the established 2-yearly events at the heart of each IFAC technical area. Typical attendance runs from 200 to 400 delegates, with focused single- or dual-track programmes, special sessions, and best-paper awards. All papers are published in IFAC-PapersOnLine and are fully open-access.

IFAC Conferences

IFAC Conferences focus on emerging or specialised areas — typically 100 to 250 delegates, single-track programmes, and high industry participation. They complement Symposia by targeting fast-moving fields such as automotive control, NMPC, cyber-physical systems and operator-centred design.

IFAC Workshops

Single-track gatherings on emerging topics — typically 2 to 3 days, 60 to 120 attendees. Workshops allow for in-depth discussion, hands-on sessions and direct community building. Submissions undergo peer review and accepted papers are published in IFAC-PapersOnLine.

Co-sponsored Conferences

IFAC technically co-sponsors selected events organised by partner societies including IEEE CSS, EUCA, IFIP, ASME and others. Co-sponsorship gives IFAC affiliates discounted registration, joint programme committees and shared publication channels.

IFACx and Other Events

IFACx and other events extends the federation’s reach through virtual and hybrid formats, making IFAC content accessible worldwide. Recorded lectures, live-streamed symposia, and fully online workshops are produced under the IFACx and other events banner and archived in the open-access digital library.

Distinguished Lecturer Program

The Distinguished Lecturer Program brings senior IFAC researchers to member institutions for in-person lectures, seminars and student workshops. Hosts cover local logistics; IFAC covers the lecturer’s travel.
